Definition Of Hypnotism And Its Benefit In Losing Weight
by Keith B Junor
It is difficult to find a definition of hypnosis that everyone agrees on due to the diverse background, types of hypnotists and therapists. This is why I am going to give you several definitions.
From William Broom, Chief Executive& Registrar, The General Hypnotherapy Standards Council: Hypnosis is a state of mind, enhanced by mental and physical relaxation, in which our subconscious is able to communicate with our conscious mind. It is widely accepted as a most excellent method by which we may access our inner potential. The state of mind referred to may be brought about either by oneself, unaided (self-hypnosis) or with the help of another person.
The author of ” The Wizard Within” A.M Krasner, says: Hypnosis is “a process which produces relaxation, distraction of the conscious mind, heightened suggestibility and increased awareness, allowing access to the subconscious mind through the imagination. It also produces the ability to experience thoughts and images as real.”
Ph.D Eric Greenleaf has been quoted as saying this about hypnotism: The notion of hypnosis is to help a person, by focusing and searching inwardly, to utilize all his learning and skills to resolve his problems, and to do so with the aid of unconscious learning and understanding. What scientists do when they “dream up” inventions and theories, what statesmen do when they “sleep on it” before solving problems of state, what athletes do preparing for a match by “visualizing” the flight of the ballthis is the sort of thing hypnotized persons do to apply themselves to difficult problems of living.
The field of hypnotism is to be based on respect for human beings, even through its complex nature and unique experiences that have made us as individuals, who we are. While in a trance people can experience strong emotions, painful sensations, reduced pain, forgetting or remembering things,an enhanced self awareness and creativity and a host of other helpful things.
Healing by trance state (hypnosis) is one of the oldest phenomena known to man and is found, in one form or another, in virtually every culture throughout the world. The hypnotic state is, in most respects, entirely dissimilar to sleep.
Many people have wondered” Can Hypnosis Help Me Lose Weight?
I will let you judge for yourself based on the answer below.
Yes, research demonstrates a significant effect when using hypnosis for weight loss.
After a 9 week study using 2 weight loss groups, 1 using hypnosis and the other not using hypnosis. The group that used hypnosis continued to get positive results up to 2 years after, while the other group showed no further improvement after the end of the study. This was published in the journal of clinical psychology in 1985.
